Dermal fillers are gel-like substances injected under the skin. Dermal fillers are meant to create a smoother or fuller appearance, or both. Dermal fillers are approved for specific uses in people.

Those uses include:

. Correcting moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and skin folds
. Increasing fullness of lips, cheeks, chin, under-eye hollows, jawline, and back of the hand
. Restoring facial fat loss in people
. Correcting acne scars on the cheek

As with any medical procedure, there are risks involved with the use of dermal fillers. Most side effects associated with dermal fillers, such as swelling and bruising occur shortly after injection and many resolve in a few days to weeks. In some cases, side effects may emerge weeks, months, or years later.
Common risks include:

. Bruising
. Redness
. Swelling
. Pain
. Tenderness
. Itching
. Rash
. Difficulty in performing activities (only observed when injected into the back of the hand)

Filler Injections

. DON’T: NO blood thinners 7 days prior.
. DO: Drink plenty of water!
. DON’T: massage your lips.
. DO: Take into consideration that you might be swollen for a couple of days.
.Don’t: Exercise for at least 24 hours following the treatment.
. DO: Take Arnica pellets.

2 Days Prior to Injections

. Avoid topical products such as Tretinoin (Retin-A), Retinol, Retinoids, Glycolic Acid, or any “anti-aging” products.
. Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or using hair removal cream on the area to be treated.
. Do start taking Arnica two days prior to the procedure. (This is not required, but it will help to lessen bruising.)

General Recommendations

. If you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, there is a risk that the needle punctures could contribute to another eruption of cold sores. Please let your physician assistant know if you are prone.

. Do not use dermal fillers if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, are allergic to any ingredients, or suffer from neurological disorders. Please inform us if you have any questions about this prior to your treatment.

Botox

$10.00 a unit

Botulinum Toxin

The FDA also has approved botulinum toxin products such as Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau to treat facial wrinkles. These products are not dermal fillers. They are injectable drugs that work by keeping muscles from tightening, so the wrinkles don’t show as much. The safe use of dermal fillers in combination with Botox and other treatments has not been evaluated in clinical studies.

These 12 Simple Dos and Don’ts After Botox:

. Do Keep the Injection Sites Clean.
. Don’t Use a Fragranced Soap.
. Do Schedule Your Follow-Up Appointment.
. Don’t Lay Down for at Least 4 Hours.
. Do Exercise the Treated Facial Muscles.
. Don’t Perform Any Strenuous Activities for at Least 24 Hours.
. Do Stay Hydrated.
. Don’t rub the treated areas – HANDS OFF
Do Avoid Other Skin Treatments
. When it comes to what not to do after Botox or Fillers, this is one of the most important items. Other skin treatments such as microdermabrasion, laser resurfacing, microneedling, and chemical peels can interfere with the Botox recovery process and should be avoided for at least 14 days after treatment.
